Archives and piles of collated images and objects scatter my studio, such as an inherited soap collection from my grandma, bought film stills, found footage and unknown family photographs. These I assemble to accentuate the sublime and uncanny.
I arrange according to the narrative, much like myself as a child organising toys, putting them in logical order and then choosing my favourites. The variety of sources within my collage or film juxtaposes one another and intends to provoke the viewer’s unconscious, as the image creates a new narrative reflected by its audience.
My collages aim to elude our sense of reality, overlapping with our sense of memory; exploring the history of the archive as well as women’s roles within society.
