Joe Gregory (He/Him)
My initial thoughts when I came across this on my walk were confusion, disbelief and amazement. It was like nothing I’ve seen before, the barely recognisable solitary tree was shrouded in a blanket of webs. Like a Halloween display, only in the middle of June.
As I approached the sinister-looking tree I realised that this wasn’t the work of a human. The webs were actually created by thousands of caterpillars, in order to protect themselves whilst they feast on the tree leaves. I was not the only person intrigued by this natural phenomenon. As I took photographs, drivers stopped beside me and stared in amazement.
