The constant process of transformation brought about by the interplay of surfaces and light has been observed by generations of painters – Monet, Turner, Hockney – and contemporary concept artists like Syd Mead and Ken Adam alike. For me, the exploration of these changes – the movement of light on water, the refraction of light through the glass as in this simple study based on a photograph – has ultimately led to a freer, more improvisational process and so more unpredictable outcomes.
